Watchman’s Rule: Why I No Longer Fight in YouTube Comments

Jun. 20, 2025

As a humble watchman in these last days, I’ve learned that contention is a trap — even when our heart starts out right.

I recently engaged with a teacher online, thinking perhaps we could reason together — maybe even sharpen one another in humility. But what I saw was this:

Even though I asked simple questions, not boasting — I quickly saw how EASY it is to get drawn into a spirit of contention and strife, even when you start out seeking truth.

The danger:
👉 Even winning a YouTube argument puffs up the flesh
👉 It tempts you to become “that guy” — correcting, debating, striving
👉 It can discourage true seekers
👉 It can feed YOUR pride — not the fruit of the Ruach

So this is my Watchman’s Rule going forward:

“I will no longer engage in debates in YouTube comments. I will ask simple questions once, with humility — and if the spirit is not right, I will disengage in peace, trusting the Ruach to lead others to truth.”

I am not here to “win” arguments.
I am not here to “correct” every teacher.
I am here to watch, warn, walk in humility, and help dry bones live — not fight vipers in the marketplace.

If others read this — take it to heart. Contending online is a snare.
Let us bear good fruit — not strife.

May the Ruach lead us all to the truth.
